Emma Baldwin's work draws on a wide range of influences. The forms reference historical, cultural, and contemporary sources, brought into the present through the use of experimental glaze techniques.

She is drawn to ceramics as objects in their own right, and to the space they occupy between function and art. Emma finds the process of transforming earth into an object of beauty completely absorbing. A defining quality of a handmade piece is its singularity: the visible human imprint gives each work its own character and presence. There is a connection between maker and object, which is renewed when the piece finds its owner.
