About this Artist
David O’Connor is a landscape artist based in Wiltshire. He was born on the Wirral peninsular but moved to Wiltshire to discover the world created by the painter Paul Nash and, inspired by Nash, has created his own style in response to the landscape.
David’s paintings reconstruct the landscape on a canvas by building up layers of paint, overlapping sections as well as scraping them back revealing what has come before as if emerged in an archeological dig. The work evolves as it is driven by emotive memory as well as representational fragments. This creates captivating pieces.
Colour and pattern are what excite David as he tries to create a balance between what he sees, what he recollects and the wish to construct something more than simple representation. There is always a tension between the flatness of the canvas and representation. He has been exploring combining aerial perspective with topographical views.
